The South Shelby School District plans to upgrade both the lighting and parking lots around the high school and middle school. Superintendent Troy Clawson says the school board approved a bid by JT Holman last week to get the paving work done before school begins in the fall.

The board also approved a contract with Macon Electric to convert all of the middle school, high school, and parking lot lighting to LED.

Clawson says the district could save $15,000 to $20,000 a year on utility bills and equipment expenses with the conversion.
