Smith Taking on New Experience as Sturgeon Baseball Coach

After spending the past four years as Sturgeon’s varsity boys’ basketball coach, Michael Smith began the current school year as the Bulldogs’ new baseball coach. He led a young Sturgeon squad to a 4-9 record during the fall season. Smith says he’s happy coaching a different sport this year.

Smith stepped down as basketball coach to become both the baseball coach and athletic director at Sturgeon. He says the fall season was helpful in preparing his team for the spring.

The Bulldogs feature just three seniors on their roster this season. Smith highlights the key players for this year’s team.

Smith takes over for longtime Sturgeon baseball coach Kevin Hicks, who retired at the end of last season. You can hear full interviews with area coaches during the First Pitch Show on April 1st at 5:35 pm on KRES and centralmoinfo.com.
