The year 2019 was one of the wettest years on record in Missouri. Kirksville had the highest precipitation total for the year at 64.54 inches. Meanwhile, the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill reported that the Kansas City area had its fourth highest precipitation total ever with just over 53 inches. Meteorologist Jonathan Kurtz says the rainfall combined with other factors resulted in significant flooding throughout the state.

This significant flooding has been a troubling trend for Missourians in recent years. Kurtz says 2020 could see more flooding in Missouri.

As a result, the first few months of 2020 will give meteorlogists a better idea on how wet the new year will be.
