SHOOTING SUSPECT ARRESTED FOLLOWING STANDOFF IN KIRKSVILLE

A Hurdland man is in custody following a 20 minute standoff with Kirksville police. The incident occurred last (Sun.) night at around 9:40. Kirksville police officers conducted a traffic stop on Douglas Garrett of Hurdland in the 300 block of West Patterson Street. During the stop, officers noticed Garrett had a handgun with him in the vehicle. A standoff followed in which officers negotiated with Garrett to surrender. After approximately 20 minutes Garrett was taken into custody without incident. Garrett is the primary suspect in a shooting that took place Wednesday night the 1200 block of South Baird Street. During Sunday night’s incident the Kirksville Police Department was assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Adair County Sheriff’s Office, and the Truman State University Department of Public Safety.
