Shelby County Recognized for No Fatality Crashes in Two Years

Local, county, state and school officials were on hand at the courthouse in Shelbyville Monday as Shelby County was recognized by the Northeast Coalition for Roadway Safety as one of three counties in northeast Missouri with zero fatalities on Missouri roads last year. This is the second year in a row Shelby County has had zero fatalities. That’s an accomplishment that Sergeant Eric Brown with the highway patrol says doesn’t happen very often.

MoDOT Area Engineer Brian Untiedt says this is a cooperative effort.

Shelby County presiding commissioner Glenn Eagan says while this is a big honor, he is hoping more can be done to promote roadway safety.

Eagan says that would include the legislature passing and the governor signing a ban on texting and driving. The Mark Twain Regional Council of Government, and the Shelby County Health Department were also on hand for the ceremony. The other two counties in northeast Missouri without a fatal crash last year were Schuyler and and Lewis.
