The Moberly Lady Spartans led throughout the game on their way to a 7-3 victory over Westran at Kelly Odneal Field in Huntsville. However, the Lady Spartans needed a three-run surge in the seventh to insure the win. Westran had cut the Moberly lead to 4-3 with two runs in the sixth inning. However, Moberly used back-to-back singles from Mary Billington and Kenedi Freeman to setup a sacrifice fly from Mady Klostermann to push the lead to 5-3. Two batters later Quincy Reynolds delivered the exclaimation point on the Moberly victory.

Reynolds also had a sacrifice fly to finish with three RBI’s for the game. In the circle Lauren Koenig pitched the full seven innings to earn the win. She allowed three unearned runs on three hits, while striking out six batters and walking none. Taylor said Koenig pitched solid despite missing some of her spots.

The Westran Lady Hornets’ rally in the sixth inning was led by a single by Dylan Perry and a bunt by Alyssa Downing resulting in a four-base error by the Moberly defense. However, the Westran offense was held off the board the rest of the way. Westran coach Katy Martin said they just couldn’t find the holes in the Moberly defense.

The Lady Hornets committed just two errors on the night. Martin said she was pleased with her team’s defensive effort.

With the victory Moberly snaps a three-game losing streak to improve to 7-15 on the season. Meanwhile, Westran falls to 6-15 with one game remaining in the regular season.
