September 2020 Freeman Insurance Players of the Game

9/29/20 Moberly at Cairo softball: Cairo pitcher Kacie Callahan pitched the full seven innings while striking out three and allowing five hits and one run in Cairo’s 2-1 victory over Moberly.  At one point Callahan retired nine straight batters in the win.

9/25/20 Moberly at Fulton football:  Moberly’s Jack Davidson rushed for a career-high 111 yards and one touchdown on 10 attempts. Moberly moved to 5-0 with its 50-12 victory at Fulton.

9/25/20 Monroe City at Palmyra football: Palmyra’s Ross Arch rushed for an unofficial 92 yards and a touchdown. Arch also played a strong defensive game to help the Panthers claim the Mayor’s Cup in a 30-20 victory over Monroe City.

9/25/210 Scotland County at Salisbury football: Scotland County running back Alex Long ran for 238 yards and two touchdowns as Scotland County’s rushing attack chewed up Salisbury in a 58-6 victory for the Tigers.

9/18/20 Kirksville at Moberly football: Moberly senior defensive back Te’Jon Mozee recorded an interception, four tackles, and a tackle for a loss in the Spartans’ 27-0 win. Both teams entered the matchup 3-0. Mozee and the
Moberly secondary held Kirksville to 89 passing yards on 29 attempts.

9/18/20 Centralia at Monroe City football: Centralia junior quarterback Beau Gordon scored two rushing touchdowns and played an integral role in Centralia’s defense as they shut out Monroe City 18-0.

9/18/20 Westran at Harrisburg football: Westran junior quarterback Derrick Merritt went 9-12 passing with 115 yards and one touchdown and ran the ball 13 times for 87 yards in Westran’s 24-22 win over Harrisburg.  Merritt also made several key plays on Westran’s game-winning drive which ended with a 3-yard touchdown run by Sean Mendez with 1:38 to go in the game.

9/12/20 Moberly at Excelsior Springs football: Spartan senior Ethan Vandall scored two rushing touchdowns and connected on two field goals, including a career-long 33-yard kick in a 42-7 win over Excelsior Springs.

9/11/20 Monroe City at South Shelby football: Monroe City junior Joshua Talton ran for an unofficial 169 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns in the Panthers 62-14 win over South Shelby.

9/11/20 Milan at Putnam County football: Milan senior running back Dominic Dabney had 13 carries for 138 yards and one touchdown.  He also added a touchdown reception and helped lead the Wildcat defense in a 32-0 shutout victory over rival Putnam County.

9/4/20 Osage at Moberly football: Jarrett Kinder set a physical tone for Moberly by taking the direct snap and scoring two first quarter touchdowns. He scored a third rushing touchdown to start the fourth quarter to help the Spartans pull away for a 49-18 win over Osage. Kinder had 6 carries for 45 yards.  He also recovered a fumble and recorded a sack on defense for the Spartans.

9/4/20 Brookfield at Marceline football: Brookfield senior Derek Liebhart rushed for 172 yards on 13 carries and scored three touchdowns in a 42-7 victory against Marceline in the 85th Bell Game.

9/4/20 Hallsville at Centralia football: Centralia junior quarterback Beau Gordon and Hallsville junior quarterback Tyger Cobb split the honors in Centralia’s 34-28 win.  Making his first varsity start at quarterback Gordon ran the ball 11 times for 45 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner with 1:36 left in the game.  Gordon also threw for 99 yards and two successful two-point conversion passes.  He also recovered a fumble.  Meanwhile, Cobb, making his second varsity start at quarterback went 13-22 passing for 189 yards and two touchdowns.  He also ran the ball 19 times for 79 yards.
