Scott Free Throw Gives Truman Men the Top GLVC Record-Pinkout Win Honors KK

The Truman men have the best record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the women honored one of their family in a “pinkout” sweep of Missouri-St. Louis at Pershing Arena Saturday afternoon.

In the men’s game, Turner Scott hit a free throw with less than a second left to lift the Bulldogs to a 72-71 victory over 13th ranked UMSL. Here’s how it sounded….

Brad Boyer with the call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. A half second was put back on the clock. Turner missed the first, but cashed in the second for the win. Coach Jeff Horner talked about how the play unfolded….

Trailing 23-20 in the first half, the ‘Dogs scored 16 points in a row and never trailed the rest of the way….

Brodric Thomas led Truman with 27 points (including 15-of-15 from the free throw line), 12 rebounds, and eight assists. The Bulldogs broke a tie with the Tritons for the best mark in the GLVC at 12-2 and improve to 16-6.  In the new Point Rating Standings, the Bulldogs moved up to number 1. Jose Grubbs paced UMSL with 25. The Tritons drop to 11-3 in league play and 20-4 overall.

In the women’s game, Truman outscored UMSL 23-8 in the third quarter and held on for a 63-58 win. The Bulldogs trailed 28-24 at halftime but came out of the locker room with a 21-3 run….

Katey Klucking hit that three as part of a 12-point, eight-rebound performance. It was the Bulldogs first “pinkout breast cancer awareness” game since Klucking’s mom, Krystina passed away in the offseason. Coach Theo Dean expected his Columbia guard to rise up….

Katie Jaseckas led Truman with 22 points. The Bulldogs improve to 12-2 in the GLVC and 16-5 overall. The Tritons drop to 6-8 and 11-12.

The Truman teams hit the road to Bellarmine on Thursday. Coverage from Louisville will begin at 4:30 on KRES.
