Scott Beats Bellarmine at the Buzzer

For the second straight game, Truman State guard Turner Scott provided the late heroics, this time at Bellarmine Thursday night…..

Brad Boyer with the call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Scott’s shot from just past mid-court lifted the Bulldogs over Bellarmine 61-60 in their last visit to Knights Hall in Louisville. Scott also hit a free throw with less than a second left Saturday to beat nationally ranked Missouri-St. Louis. Coach Jeff Horner talked about the winning play….

Scott tied Brodric Thomas for team-high honors with 18 points. Cade McKnight added 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Bulldogs led by as many as 17 points early in the second half, but Knights rallied with 7-of-14 shooting from the arc and Truman foul trouble. Alex Cook, who led all scorers with 19, scored a lay-up with four seconds left to give the Knights their first lead of the second half at 60-58, before Scott hit the winning shot. It was the sixth straight win for the Bulldogs, who stay in first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference at 13-2 and improve to 17-6 overall. The formerly top ranked Knights fall to 9-6 in the GLVC and 16-6.

A comeback by the Truman women fell short in a 72-62 loss at Bellarmine. The Knights built a 24 point lead early in the second half, but the Bulldogs finished the third quarter outscoring their hosts 26-11…

Truman got as close as five with less than two minutes left before the rally stalled. Bulldogs coach Theo Dean discussed how they dug such a big hole….

Bellarmine got a perfect shooting night from Mikayla Berry, who was 8-for-8 from the field, including a trio of three-pointers and four-for-four from the line to finish with 23 points. The Knights improve to 13-9 and 8-7 in the GLVC. Katie Jaseckas paced Truman with 17 points and 10 rebounds. The Bulldogs drop to 16-6 and 12-3 in the league. They are still fourth in the conference’s point rating standings.
