Scotland County Girls Claim Lewis and Clark Conference Title; Salisbury Boys Stay in Title Hunt
The Scotland County girls claimed a Lewis & Clark Conference title while the Salisbury boys stayed in the conference title hunt, with respective victories in Salisbury Monday night.
In the girls game, the Lady Tigers used a 10-0 run over the course of the end of the first quarter and start of the second quarter to build up a lead. Salisbury would come back to tie the game at 36 early in the fourth quarter. However, Scotland County would get two quick baskets to retake the lead and hold on for a 52-50 win. Scotland County was led by Hannah Feeney with 13 points. Scotland County girls coach Cory Shultz said Feeney also came up big with her ballhandling.
Kylee Stott and Micah Cooley added 11 points for the Lady Tigers, who finished a perfect 8-0 in the Lewis and Clark Conference and improved to 20-3 on the season. Free throw shooting was also pivotal for the Lady Tigers as they shot 19-26 from the charity stripe. Shultz said it was a relief to see those shots go down.
The Lady Tigers came into the contest shooting just 51 percent from the free throw line. Salisbury fell to 5-1 in conference play and 19-3 overall. Bryn Wooldridge led all scorers with 23 points in the game, however the Lady Panthers failed to sustain a run late to push them over the top Salisbury girls coach Wade Billington said it was a frustrating night for the team.
In the boys game, Salisbury used a surge in the middle quarters to bury Scotland County 69-48. Salisbury’s Jackson King started the Salisbury run at the end of the first quarter.

King finished with a game-high 23 points. Salisbury coach Kenny Wyatt said it felt like that shot helped get the offense on track.
Wyatt reached 500 wins as Salisbury head coach Friday night when they defeated Schuyler County 60-47. Scotland County started brightly against Salisbury by controlling the offensive glass and grabbing an early lead. However, Scotland County boys coach Jeremy Austin said they struggled to deal with the increased tempo from Salisbury in the middle quarters.
The loss was the Tigers’ fifth straight, as they fell to 6-16 on the season.
