The Scotland County girls and Milan boys basketball teams were crowned district champions on Saturday afternoon at Schuyler County High School.

In the girls championship, Scotland County claimed a 49-43 victory in a game which featured several ties and lead changes. Trailing 31-28 late in the third quarter, Hannah Feeney swung momentum back in the Lady Tigers’ favor.

Feeney would then score on Scotland County’s opening possession of the fourth quarter to give her team the lead. The Lady Tigers would go on to outscore Salisbury 19-12 in the fourth quarter to win their first district title since 2017. Hannah Feeney led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 14 points. Scotland County coach Cory Shultz said her all-around performance was key in the victory.

The Lady Tigers improve to 25-3 on the season. They will face Paris in a Class 2 Sectional Wednesday at 6 pm at Hannibal High School. Salisbury finishes the season with a record of 23-4. Bryn Wooldridge led the Lady Panthers with 26 points in the game. Salisbury coach Wade Billington said the team struggled to execute in the game.

In the boys game, the Milan Wildcats started fast on their way to a 62-46 victory over Westran. Eddie Gonzalez scored 12 of his game-high 22 points in the first quarter for Milan. The Wildcats outscored the Hornets in every quarter on their way to their third straight district title. Milan coach Andrea Dabney said her veteran team is clicking on all cylinders.

The ninth-ranked Wildcats improve to 24-3 and will face Van-Far in a Class 2 Sectional Wednesday at 7:45 pm at Hannibal High School. Van-Far has knocked Milan out of the state playoffs the previous two seasons. Westran trailed by as many as 21 points during the course of the game. Despite the large hole, Westran coach Chris Sander said he liked the way his team battled.

The Hornets were led in the game by Karter Koenig with 14 points. Westran finishes the season with a record of 18-7. You can hear full interviews with the coaches on
