Scotland County Continues Scholar Bowl Tradition Saturday

One of Missouri’s oldest quiz bowl tournaments continues Saturday, when Scotland County hosts its 53rd annual invitational.  On this week’s episode of KRES Scholars Weekly, Coach Nathaniel Orr explains the origins of their event.

14 high school teams and 12 junior high teams will compete.  Scotland County will field two of the high school teams, including a varsity squad that placed fourth at the Lewis and Clark Conference tournament last weekend in Harrisburg.  Orr says they’re prepared to scale up to the larger competition that will make the drive to Memphis.

The 53rd Scotland County Invitational will begin Saturday with four preliminary rounds.  The top eight teams in each division advance to playoff brackets in the afternoon.

We’ll have results on the next installment of KRES Scholars Weekly, which airs Wednesday afternoons at 3:35.  If you would like to hear a previous episode, click here for an archive of this season’s programs.
