Schutter Discusses Time in the Bahamas

Jennifer Schutter (SHOOTER), Field Specialist in Horticulture at the Adair County Extension Office, went to the Bahamas last month as part of a mission to teach agriculture and horticulture techniques. She also got to tour some of the farms and gardens.

They also grow pineapples and avocados.

Schutter says many of the fruit trees had to be replanted after Hurricane Dorian in 2019. The storm surge from three years ago is still causing issues.

The trips, sponsored by Convoy of Hope, are sending two specialists to the Bahamas each month through February. Schutter said it was also gratifying to see plants and pollinators that we don’t have in Missouri.
