SBU Walks Off With An Upset Of Truman

Southwest Baptist walked off with a 20-17 upset win over 21st ranked Truman in rainy Bolivar this afternoon (Sat.)….
Brad Boyer with the call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com, of Logan Turner’s 18th field goal of the season. Turner, who leads the country in field goals, had a 51-yard attempt blocked earlier in the fourth quarter with the Bearcats up 17-10. The Bulldogs drove down the field and tied the game with 3:45 left….
SBU was led by Abel Carter, who rushed for 185 yards and scored two first half touchdowns. Truman coach Gregg Nesbitt said a persistent downpour influenced the Bearcats run-heavy strategy….
There was a 50 minute weather delay near the end of the first quarter. One of Carter’s touchdowns was set up by a mishandeled punt snap recovered near the goalline.
The Bulldogs got a six-yard touchdown run by Denim Cook in the first quarter and a Grant Ross 36-yard field goal as time expired to trail 14-10 at halftime.
The Bearcats improve to 3-6 and 2-3 in the GLVC. Truman’s NCAA playoff chances take a big hit. The ‘Dogs drop to 7-2 and 3-2 in the league. The Bulldogs will host Upper Iowa for Senior Day next Saturday. You can hear the game on KRES starting at 11:15am.
