Salisbury to Visit Westran in Battle for District Positioning

The Salisbury Panthers will travel to Huntsville to take on the Westran Hornets in a game that could go a long way to determining district positioning for both teams. Heading into the final week of the regular season Salisbury is third in Class 1 District 6 while Westran is fifth. The Panthers snapped a three-game losing streak last week with a 46-20 win over Confluence. Salisbury coach Oren Magruder says they need to be mentally ready for this game.

Despite winning by a comfortable margin against Confluence, the Panthers committed eight turnovers in the game. While cutting down on turnovers will be key for the offense, Magruder says the defense will need to be ready for a potent Hornet rushing attack.

The Hornets come into this contest 3-5 and 2-3 in the Lewis & Clark Conference after a defensive struggle with Marceline last week as the Tigers won 14-12. The three L&C losses for Westran were all 10 point defeats. Coach Aaron O’Laughlin says his team has struggled to finish games

Last season the Hornets swept the Panthers in the regular season as well as the district playoff game. O’Laughlin says both teams have gone through a similar eight weeks of football.
