The Salisbury boys’ basketball team overcame several obstacles on their way to the Class 2 State Championship. The biggest was the death of starter London White just days before the team departed for the Show-Me Showdown in Springfield. Coach Kenny Wyatt said the outpouring of support they received was incredible.
Wyatt also credited the support from White’s family.
With his number 20 jersey draped over the last chair on the Salisbury bench White’s presence was noticed in both the semifinal and championship games.
The state title was Salisbury’s first since 2012. Wyatt was named the KRES Boys Coach of the Year while junior Cooper Francis was named to the KRES All-Star Team. White was named an honorary KRES All-Star.
