Saline County Farmland Sets Record Sale Price

It took just 15 minutes for a bidding war between two Central Missouri farmers to turn into a record sale price.  115 acres of land in Saline County sold last Thursday morning for $34,800 per acre.  That smashed the previous record of $30,000 per acre set in Iowa.  Farm Journal reports that the starting bid set by Dyer and Fenner Auctioneers was $15,000, before the bidding war broke out between the two farmers.  The winning bid came from Carroll County farmer Jeff Baxter, while the competing bidder was a farmer whose home farm is adjacent to the parcel.  The farmland just east of Malta Bend had been in the seller’s family for four generations.
