Rung Discusses Move to Monroe City After 10 Years as Clark County Boys Coach

Monroe City named Adam Rung its head girls basketball coach Friday. Rung guided the Clark County boys for 10 years. The Iowa native says Monroe City contacted him about its girls job a few weeks ago.

Rung explains what attracted him to the Monroe City School District.

Rung’s Clark County boys won three straight Clarence Cannon Conference titles from 2016-18. The 2016 Indians captured the program’s first district championship since 1994. Monroe City marks Rung’s first head girls basketball stint.

Rung referenced John Weaver, who coached the Clark County girls to a fourth place finish in 2018. Monroe City boasts 20-plus wins in five of the last six seasons. The Lady Panthers earned district championships in 2016 and 2019.

Rung notes his relationship with Monroe City boys coach Brock Edris adds confidence in the move. The two competed against each other for a decade.

Rung replaces Cody Leonard, who resigned after a nine-year run. Leonard remains Monroe City’s athletic director. Hear a full interview with new Monroe City girls coach Adam Rung below.
