Route 149 Bridge Replacement Starting

The Missouri Route 149 bridge replacement project over Walnut Creek is scheduled to begin tomorrow (Mon.). The Missouri Department of Transportation closed Route 149 near Gifford, in Macon County, on July 10, 2021 following flooding that washed out a section of roadway and a large box culvert. Due to frequent flooding and ongoing issues with debris from upstream wooded areas, it was decided that a bridge, rather than a culvert, was necessary at this location. When flood damage occurred, MoDOT reports lack of necessary resources and the time frame to prepare bridge plans pushed the project back to this year.

Weather permitting, anticipated completion of the new bridge is scheduled for late January 2024.
