Rough First Half Dooms Harrisburg in Loss to South Iron

The South Iron Panthers used a big first half run to defeat the Harrisburg Bulldogs 62-51 Thursday afternoon in the Norm Stewart Classic at Mizzou Arena. The Bulldogs got out to a 7-4 lead within the first two minutes of the game but the South Iron offense quickly built up a double-digit lead after that. Colin Schowe with the call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. The struggles continued for the Bulldogs in the second quarter as they were held to eight points and two made field goals in the frame. Coach Kyle Fisher discussed his team’s first half offensive woes.

After trailing 33-16 at halftime, the Bulldogs worked to get back into the game in the second half as they got as close as seven during the fourth quarter. Bryce Ott led the Bulldogs with 17 points while Hayven Samuels provided a spark off the bench with 13. Fisher said he was encouraged by their performances.

Trace Combs added twelve points for the Bulldogs. Burse and Sawyer Huff led the three-time defending state champion Panthers with 18 points each. South Iron improves to 6-0 while Harrisburg drops to 3-3.
