Rivals Cairo and Sturgeon Set to do Battle on the Softball Diamond
Cairo will host Sturgeon in a battle of CAC rivals Tuesday evening. The Lady Bearcats are coming off a fifth-place finish over the weekend in their own tournament. Cairo finished the tournament strong with a 14-8 win in eight innings over North Callaway. Cairo coach Brian Winkler says his team showed grit to finish the weekend strong.
The win against North Callaway snapped a four-game losing streak for the Lady Bearcats. They enter the game against Sturgeon with an overall record of 4-7. Cairo features a young team with Morgan Taylor serving as their lone senior. Winkler says defense will be key against Sturgeon.
Cairo has won the last nine games against Sturgeon including a 13-0 victory last season. The Lady Bulldogs are coming off playing in the Fayette Tournament this past weekend. Despite suffering a trio of losses Sturgeon coach Michael Trussell took some positives from his team’s effort over the weekend.
Both Sturgeon and Cairo are searching for their first conference wins in the CAC. Trussell says he enjoys the tough competition within the conference.
Pregame coverage from Cairo will begin at 4:45 pm on KTCM 97.3 and centralmoinfo.com. Colin Schowe will have the play-by-play.
