Resistance to Bill Expanding Doctorate Programs Outside of the University of Missouri

The University of Missouri is among the opponents of a bill designed to expand certain doctorate programs to other four-year universities in the state. This would cover programs such as dentistry, pharmacy, law and veterinarian medicine. Representative Cheri Toalson Reisch of Hallsville says there are cost issues with this legislation.
House Bill 2673 was referred to the House Higher Education Committee, which Toalson Reisch is the Vice-Chair of. She says the bill likely won’t advance far, although it still serves a good purpose.
The bill is sponsored by Representative Melanie Stinnett of Springfield.
