An employee of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department has been fired. Randolph County Sheriff Mark Nichols says on Wednesday an unauthorized body cam video was released to a Randolph County citizen, who posted it to social media. The video shows an individual lodging a harassment complaint against a Randolph County Sheriff’s employee. The video does not show any evidence of harassment. The employee denied any improper conduct, and the complainant did not provide evidence relevant to her complaint, and later retracted it. Nichols says releasing body cam video is in violation of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department Policy, which is based upon accepted practices and recommendations for law enforcement. Department policy protects the privacy and identity of the of the involved and allegedly involved persons. Nichols says that policy was violated, and as a result, the involved employee was fired.
