This is the first year the alliance has opened the shelter. Sander says putting the project together was a two-year process.
Sander outlined how volunteers can sign up.
Sander says the shelter will open when overnight temperatures reach 15 degrees or colder. The alliance is holding orientation meetings for volunteers at the First Christian Church Thursday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 5 p.m.
