Putnam County Takes Third After Miraculous Comeback

Putnam County completed an unbelievable comeback to take third place in Class 2 after defeating Holcomb 11-9.
Putnam committed three errors in the first two innings and faced a 9-0 deficit. Holcomb scored seven of its nine runs in the second inning and all came with two outs. Putnam began the comeback bid with three runs in the third and never looked back.

Austin Ward with the calls on Superstation KRES. In the top of the seventh, leading hitter Gage Pearson came to the plate with the go-ahead run on third base.

Putnam County coach Blane Robinson knew completing the comeback would require a patient approach.

Lance Fowler both started and ended the game on the mound. In total, he pitched 3 2/3 innings. Only two of the nine runs he surrendered were earned. Zach Heidenwith provided a crucial 3 1/3 scoreless relief innings. Fowler, Pearson, Jaydon Pribyl, Brayden McReynolds and Reise Brundage all had two hits.

Putnam County ends its season with a 20-3 record. All but one starter will return to next year’s team.
