Poaching Reported in Ralls County

An incident of poaching was reported in Ralls County Monday. An incident was reported to the Ralls County Sheriff’s Office of poaching on Highway M, near Lakewood Place, in the New London area. On arrival, deputies found a dead female dear appearing to have died from a single gunshot. The reporting party advised the deputy on-scene of a possible vehicle description, and while there a vehicle matching that description drove by the scene. The vehicle was stopped and two juvenile occupants admitted they had unlawfully shot the deer from the roadway. As part of a joint investigation with the Department of Conservation, charges for taking deer with the aid of a motor vehicle and taking deer with the aid of artificial lighting have been referred to the local Juvenile Justice Center.
