Platte Valley Shuts Down Community in Class 1 Semifinal
Platte Valley used solid pitching from four different hurlers and pounded out 15 hits as they defeated Community R-6 8-0 in a Class 1 Semifinal Monday at Sky Bacon Stadium.  Platte Valley jumped on a pair of errors in the second to grab a 2-0 lead.  A Memphis Bliley lead off triple in the third set the tone for another two run frame.  Then Alex Mattson and Matthew Jermain added RBI singles in the fifth inning to all but put the game away for Platte Valley.  Community coach Joel Krato said Platte Valley’s previous experience at state served them well.

Platte Valley improved to 20-2 and will face St. Elizabeth for the Class 1 Championship.  Bliley, Jermain, Wyatt Miller, and Brandon McQueen combined to hold the Trojans to one hit.  That hit came in the form of a fourth inning double by senior Gavin Allen, who also played solid defensively at shortstop.  Krato said Allen provided the leadership on the day.

Junior pitcher Mason Carroll suffered the loss as he allowed seven runs over five-and-two-thirds innings of work.  Community falls to 19-6 and will face Cooter in the third place game tomorrow morning.  Pregame coverage will begin at 9:50 on KTCM 97.3 and centralmoinfo.com  Colin Schowe and Austin Ward will have the call.  You can hear the full postgame interview with coach Krato online at centralmoinfo.com
