Plank Fighting Against IP Reform

The Missouri House heard debate last week on an initiative petition reform bill that would go along the one moving through the Senate. House Bill 1749 was filed by Representative Mike Haffner of Pleasant Hill. State Representative Adrian Plank of Columbia says proponents of initiative petition reform in the Missouri Legislature are not being honest.

Plank also opposes the provision requiring a concurrent majority of Congressional districts approving an amendment. He cites an analysis by the Missouri Independent, which shows that proposals supported by the majority of voters could be blocked by as few as 20 percent of the electorate.

Some of the so-called “ballot candy”, such as a provision that would allegedly bar undocumented citizens from voting in Missouri, although they are already barred from doing so, was removed from the Senate bill last week
