The Palmyra Lady Panthers had no answers for Sherwood junior pitcher Mackenzie Morgan in a 2-0 loss in the Class 2 State Championship game in Springfield. Morgan struck out 14 Palmyra batters over seven innings to lead the Lady Marksmen to their first ever state title. Morgan also got it done with the bat in the victory.

Colin Schowe with the call on KTCM 97.3 and centralmoinfo.com. An error on the play allowed Grace Parrott to score the first run of Sherwood’s 2-0 victory. Morgan would go 2-2 at the plate with a pair of singles to lead the Lady Marksmen offensively. Meanwhile, Palmyra could only muster one hit and two base runners against her while she was in the circle. Palmyra coach Jill Arch said a slow start against Morgan hurt them.

Megan Stone delivered a single in the fourth inning for Palmyra’s lone hit of the game. Meanwhile, Palmyra received a solid pitching performance from senior Brooke Lawson who went the full seven innings while striking out nine and scattering five hits. Arch said she is hopeful this year’s state run is a sign of thing to come for the program.

Palmyra finishes the season with a record of 21-9. Meanwhile, Sherwood concludes the season 26-3 and captures their first ever state title in any sport.
