With the expected passage of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement this month, many farmers are excited about what the trade deal means for trade and sales into the future. However, at least one cattle leader is expressing caution about the deal’s potential benefits. Rosa says the U.S. has a massive trade deficit with Canada when it comes to meat, something he’d also like to see addressed. Rosa also pointed out that the trade picture has become slightly more encouraging over the past couple of months, and he’s hopeful that momentum will continue into the New Year…

Both the U.S. and Canada have yet to ratify USMCA. The Senate Finance Committee is expected to begin hearings next week. Meanwhile, Canada’s House of Commons won’t reconvene until January 27th.
