One Killed and Four Injured in Callaway County Accident

A Jefferson City man is dead and four other people are injured following a one-vehicle accident on Highway 63 in Callaway County early Sunday morning. The accident occurred at 1:45 on southbound 63 at the intersection of County Road 399. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol an SUV driven by 19-year-old Demont Webb of Jefferson City traveled off the right side of the road. Webb overcorrected resulting in the vehicle sliding sideways into a guardrail and overturning. The vehicle came to rest on its top in the median. Webb was pronounced dead at the scene. Three of his passengers, 18-year-old Fiona Chanache of Jefferson City, 24-year-old Devion Hallmon of Jefferson City and 19-year-old Melissa Carmichael of Columbia all suffered serious injuries. They were all taken to Columbia. A fourth passenger, Jassmine Carter of Jefferson City had moderate injuries. She was taken to Jefferson City. Carter was the only person wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
