O’Laughlin Shares Thoughts on Senate Not Funding Medicaid Expansion

Following a lengthy discussion late last week, the Missouri Senate approved a $34 billion state budget that didn’t include Medicaid expansion. The Senate ended up joining the House of Representatives in not funding Medicaid expansion. Senator Cindy O’Laughlin of Shelbina explains how discussion on Medicaid Expansion played out.

Last year, 53 percent of Missouri voters supported Medicaid expansion. O’Laughlin voted against Medicaid expansion in last week’s proceedings. She explains her stance on the situation.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson’s original budget request for Fiscal Year 2022 included money to fund Medicaid expansion. O’Laughlin says there are a couple of options Parson can pursue regarding Medicaid expansion in the coming months.

Parson has indicated the state will assess its options and legal requirements regarding Medicaid expansion after the state budget is finalized.
