Novinger-Brashear Survive, North Shelby Rolls at Class 1 District 11 Tournament

It was a night full of victories for the higher-seed in the boys Class 1 District 11 Tournament at La Plata High School.

The La Plata Bulldogs nearly pulled off an epic fourth quarter comeback to upset the Brashear Tigers but fell just short, losing in the closing stages of the fourth quarter 57-49. Brashear held a 12 point lead in the fourth quarter until a 15-2 run propelled La Plata back into the lead. Brashear responded with a big sequence to retake the lead and slam the door on the Bulldogs.

Mitch Kaminski with the call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Carson and Colton Erwin led the charge for Brashear with Carson scoring a game high 23 and Colton chipping in 16. The Erwin brothers were responsible for 31 of the Tigers 32 points in the second half. Coach Shelbi Followwill.

La Plata was led by junior Tucker Beautte who scored a team-high 16. The Bulldogs finish the season 6-19.

The opening game of the night featured a close victory for #4 Novinger as they defeated #5 Marion County 60-56. After a back-and-forth affair through three quarters, Novinger used an 8-0 run to take an 11 point lead early in the fourth quarter.

Wyatt Goldinger produced 14 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter to bring the deficit to within three, however free throws by the Wildcats sealed the contest. Coach Reed Plunkett spoke about Goldinger.

Wes Findling scored 24 points to lead Novinger accompanied by a 21 points performance by Gage Browning. Novinger will take on top-seeded Atlanta in the semifinals. Marion County finishes the season 9-16.

North Shelby cruised to a 61-22 victory against Bevier. Senior J.D. Rich surpassed the 1000 career points mark and finished the contest with 30 points. Coach Cody Stoneburner talked about his senior.

Sophomore Blake Williams scored 10 points to lead the Wildcats who finished the season 6-20. North Shelby will face Brashear Wednesday night.
