North Shelby Hosts Canton for Varsity Basketball Doubleheader

Regional rivals North Shelby and Canton will battle it out in a varsity basketball doubleheader Friday night at North Shelby High School. The North Shelby Lady Raiders come into play ranked sixth in Class 1. They feature a balanced attack led by Ava Williams who averages just under 15 points a game. Head coach Chris Parsons says rebounding will be key against Canton.

The Lady Raiders suffered just their second loss of the season Tuesday night, in a 64-45 setback to Schuyler County. Canton is coming in on a five-game winning streak. Their 66-40 win Monday night against Macon marked coach Danielle Baker’s 100th career win. She says they’re looking forward to the challenge of playing North Shelby on their home floor.

The Lady Tigers have won their last nine games against the Lady Raiders. In the boys’ contest, North Shelby will be looking to end a three-game losing streak as they bring in a 5-7 record into the contest. Coach Cody Stoneburner says that record doesn’t tell the whole story about his team.

Canton will pose a challenge for the Raiders with the presence of six-foot-eight-inch center Kyle Frazier, who is coming off a 25-point performance Tuesday night against Highland. Coach Dalton Armontrout says they’ll look to take advantage of that matchup.

The Tigers enter play at 7-7. Coverage can be found on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com beginning at 5:45 pm. Colin Schowe will have the play-by-play.
