North Shelby Boys Play Crane in Norm Stewart Classic

The North Shelby Raiders boys basketball team will participate in the Norm Stewart Classic Friday morning at Mizzou Arena. The 2-1 Raiders will square off against reigning Class 2 quarterfinalist Crane. Raiders coach Landon Daniel says they are honored the North Shelby alum invited them.

The Norm Stewart Classic is an annual showcase of high school basketball which features 48 consecutive hours of play on the Mizzou Arena floor. First year Crane coach Denny Hunt serves as the Executive Director of the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association, who are one of the hosts for the event. Hunt says there is a charitable aspect to all of the festivities.

As for the game, the Raiders are coming off a 79-58 loss to Putnam County in the Tri-River Classic title game. Daniel likes where the Raiders are at the moment considering they’ve had only seven practices all season.

3-2 Crane defeated Mount Vernon 61-55 in overtime Tuesday. Hunt, who is a 2015 Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame Inductee, says his Pirates are making progress.

Crane graduated a pair of 1,500 point scorers from last year’s quarterfinal squad. Pregame coverage on Glory 97.3 and centralmoinfo.com begins at about 9:45am Friday. Scott Lunte has the call.
