North Shelby and Marion County Dominate in Class 1 Sectional Play

The North Shelby boys and Marion County girls posted dominating wins in the Class 1 Sectionals at Salisbury High School.
In the boys’ game, North Shelby outscored Northwestern (Mendon) 27-6 in the second quarter to roll to a 79-47 victory. In the second quarter, North Shelby knocked down six three-pointers. Brendyn McDaniel led the three-point onslaught.

The win sends the Raiders to their first quarterfinal appearance since 2005. North Shelby boys coach Landon Daniel discussed the postseason run his team and the community are on.
North Shelby improves to 20-6 and will face Wellsville-Middletown in a Class 1 Quarterfinal on Saturday afternoon. Northwestern was led by senior Brennan Jacobs with 22 points. However, the Eagles allowed a combined 53 points in the second and fourth quarters. Northwestern boys coach Michael Kahn said the North Shelby press was too much for them.
Northwestern concludes the season at 18-10. They graduate three seniors from this year’s team.
In the girls sectional, Marion County took down Linn County 47-20 to advance to the Class 1 quarterfinals. Marion County got off to a slow start on offense before coming to life in the second quarter to take a 25-12 lead into halftime. Marion County head coach Reed Plunkett says his team handled the atmosphere well.

Linn County’s season ends at 17-13. Marion County improves to 21-5 and will face Leeton in the Class 1 quarterfinals at Pershing Arena in Kirksville on Saturday at 1 p.m.
