The National Farmers Union’s vice president of public policy has just received a promotion. Delegates at the group’s annual meeting in Savannah, Georgia elected Rob Larew as its new president. The West Virginia native has worked at the NFU since late 2016. Before joining the NFU, Larew worked as the staff director for the House Ag Committee and held positions at the USDA. House Ag Chairman Collin Peterson, whose staff previously included Larew, called Larew a smart leader and knowledgeable voice on food and farm issues. In his statement, Peterson added that the NFU would benefit greatly from Larew’s experience.

Larew won election over Kansas Farmers Union president Donn Teske and National Dairy Producers Organization chairman Mike Eby of Pennsylvania. He succeeds Roger Johnson of North Dakota, who retired after 11 years in charge of National Farmers Union. Patty Edelberg of Wisconsin was re-elected to another term as vice president.
