NEMO Sixers Eye Zone Tournament Title

The NEMO Sixers senior legion baseball team is setting their sets on more hardware this summer as they travel to Washington this weekend for the Zone 1 Tournament. The Sixers breezed through their district tournament this past weekend to run their record to 25-6. NEMO Sixers coach Drew Hunt says pitching has been the key to the team’s success.

Other key pitchers for the Sixers include Bryce Taylor of Cairo and Casey Shockley of North Shelby. Hunt says the team’s regional roster and coaching staff has meshed well together.

The Sixers first challenge at the Zone 1 Tournament will come tomorrow at 5:30 pm against the hosts Washington Post 218. Washington enters the tournament with a record of 17-11. Hunt says they will face a tough test from the tournament hosts.

Last week’s district title marked the 23rd time in 30 years the Sixers have won that tournament. However, the program has captured no zone championships over that period of time. Hunt says this weekend’s tournament is one they want to win for Sixers’ General Manager Bruce Pinkston.

Other teams in this weekend’s Zone 1 Tournament are Jefferson City Post 5 and Hannibal Post 55-Culp. The winner of the zone tournament will advance to the Missouri Senior Legion State Tournament next weekend in Sedalia.
