Just over 12 million head of cattle were in the nation’s feedlots to start December, according to the monthly USDA Cattle on Feed report released Friday. Feedlot populations increased two percent from a year ago, with nearly two-point-one million cattle placed on feed during the month of November. That figure’s a five-percent increase from last year, surpassing trader expectations. Marketings were down three percent at one-point-eight-one million head, also surpassing trader expectations.
