Monroe City Stays Unbeaten With Win At Centralia

Monroe City’s Ceaton Pennewell rushed for 126 yards and four touchdowns in Monroe City’s 28-7 win at Centralia Friday night. His second score put Monroe City up 14-0 almost midway through the second quarter, before Centralia’s Kyden Wilkerson answered immediately with a big play for their only points of the night.

Monroe City, the top-ranked team in Class 1, had 20 first downs compared to seven for Centralia, the sixth-ranked team in Class 2. Centralia had opportunities in the second half, but their first two drives ended in turnovers. Coach Tyler Forsee said it will take a very good team to beat Monroe City.

Monroe City is 5-0, and 3-0 in the Clarence Cannon Conference, tied with Macon for first place. They will host Palmyra next week. Centralia falls to 4-1, and 2-1 in the conference. They’ll visit Clark County next week.
