The Monroe City Board of Aldermen recently appointed a new police chief. Veteran Monroe City police officer Zach James was appointed last month to take over for former police chief Tyler Wheeler. James has served with the Monroe City Police Department since 2016. He has served both as sergeant and captain with the department. Monroe City Mayor Jerry Potterfield says one of James’ first focuses is in dealing with junk cars around the city.

Another area of focus for James and his officers will be on drug enforcement on local highways.

James officially took over as Monroe City police chief on December 1st when Wheeler’s resignation took effect.
