Monroe Boys and Macon Girls Headed to Class 3 Quarterfinals

The Monroe City boys and Macon girls earned impressive sectional wins at MACC Wednesday.

Sixth-ranked Monroe City topped Richmond 48-32 in the second game. The Spartans trimmed their deficit to two late, but a Panther sophomore responded.

Eric Duick with the call on Glory 97 and centralmoinfo.com. Both Joshua Talton and Bryce Stark scored 12 for 27-2 Monroe City. Richmond averaged eight 3-point makes per game, but Brock Edris’ Panthers held the Spartans scoreless on the perimeter.

Monroe City entered the half with a 24-17 lead and later led by 10 before Richmond produced an 8-0 run. The Panthers are fresh off their fourth straight district championship, but Monroe City lost its previous three sectional games.

Richmond opened with a 7-0 advantage before Monroe City controlled the contest. Monroe City meets Central of Kansas City in the quarterfinals.

The Macon Tigerettes held off a late rally by the Chillicothe Lady Hornets to win 50-40. The Lady Hornets made it a one possession game in the fourth quarter but couldn’t make the full comeback thanks to Macon’s ability at the free throw line. Kate Hawkins made 4-of-4 in the fourth quarter and Lexi Miller went 6-for-8 in the second half. Coach Richard Driscoll analyzed the game.

Miller had a game-high 20 points. Jessie Reeter, Hunter Keithley and Jordan Hibner all had nine to lead Chillicothe. The Lady Hornets end the season 20-8. Macon is now 23-4, winners of 18 straight, and will play Maryville in the quarterfinals.
