Moisture, We Hardly Knew Ye: Drought Expanding Outside St Louis

Areas south of St Louis fell back into moderate drought according to this week’s monitor update.  The U.S. Drought Monitor indicates a return to drought conditions for southwestern St Louis County, along with Washington and a majority of Franklin, Jefferson, St François and Ste Genevieve counties.  Abnormal dryness also made a return to Lincoln, Montgomery, Pike, Warren, and the northern portions of Franklin, Gasconade and St Charles counties.

Moderate drought now covers 18.9 percent of Missouri, up 3.3 points from last week.  Another 44.6 percent of the state is in abnormal dryness, an increase of five points.
