The Moberly man arrested in November following a call to the child abuse hotline, and subsequently charged with abuse or neglect of a child, has been sentenced to seven years on another case. Randolph County Prosecuting Attorney Stephanie Luntsford outlines what happened in court Wednesday with 23-year-old Zachary Mohr.

The formal charge of abuse or neglect of a child was filed against Mohr following the incident in November. Randolph County Children’s Division learned a 10-month-old baby had been flown from Moberly Regional Medical Center to St. Louis Children’s Hospital for treatment, and was in initially in critical condition after trauma to the brain along with injuries to the face and body. Luntsford says the decision by the court earlier this week does not impact that case.

According to the Moberly Police, the suspect admitted to officers he became angry with the child when she continually cried, striking her numerous times with items that included a cell phone and a metal tool box. The baby is now in a rehabilitation facility.
