For the second year in a row a winter storm is set to strike the listening area on New Year’s weekend. Upwards of eight inches of snow is being predicted, particularly in northern Missouri. Meanwhile, ice is expected along the I-70 corridor. MoDOT Area Engineer Brian Untiedt says they’re still working to get a full idea of what this storm will do.

MoDOT has been facing concerns of a driver shortage ahead of the winter storm season. Untiedt says that issue still exists.

With limited drivers, MoDOT crews will focus on the heavier traffic routes first and then focus on more rural roads as time goes on. Untiedt says drivers need to take necessary precautions if they are on the roads this weekend.

The bulk of the storm is expected to hit the listening area tomorrow.
