Moberly Visits Southern Boone for Non-conference Doubleheader

Moberly travels to Ashland Thursday night to take on Southern Boone in a varsity basketball doubleheader. The ninth-ranked Lady Spartans come into the contest on a four-game winning streak. Senior Asa Fanning is averaging 19 points per game during the streak. Coach Tony Vestal says the Lady Spartans need to have good composure in the halfcourt against Southern Boone.

Southern Boone reached their second-ever Show-Me Showdown last season, finishing fourth in the state. The Lady Eagles graduated four senior starters from that team and feature just two seniors on this year’s roster. Coach Damon Wren says their youth will be tested by Moberly’s athleticism.

The Moberly boys bring an 8-9 record into the contest. The Spartans have dropped six of their eight games in 2024. Coach Brett Boyer says they’re still struggling with one particular issue.

The Southern Boone Eagles are 13-2 and receiving votes in the latest Class 4 rankings. They’re coming off their second loss of the season, a 63-43 defeat to Capital City Tuesday night. Coach Andy Jahnsen is expecting a strong response from his team.

Chase Morris leads a balanced Eagle attack with 17.6 points-per-game. Coverage from Southern Boone begins at 6:45 on KWIX and Colin Schowe will have the play-by-play.
