Moberly Visits Kirksville to Open Conference Play

Moberly opens North Central Missouri Conference play at Kirksville Friday on KWIX. The Spartans shutout the Tigers 27-0 in last year’s conference tilt and also won a district matchup 55-14. With Moberly entering the second-third of the season seeking their first win, coach Cody McDowell says the Spartans have made strides with their practice habits.

One of the areas McDowell wants the Spartans to improve on is the run game. Moberly has averaged just 63 yards on the ground through three games. The seventh year Spartan head man explains how they can jumpstart it.

Moberly is coming off a 31-14 defeat to Excelsior Springs last week.

Kirksville enters Friday 1-2 following a 34-28 victory over Savannah. The Tigers rushed for 251 yards last week and found the end zone three times on the ground. Coach Kevin Krietemeyer says Kirksville improved in several aspects last week.

Krietemeyer says he expects a physical game to open NCMC play. The two losses to Moberly last season provide the Tigers extra motivation for this matchup.

Krietemeyer notes the Tigers must continue to cut down on penalties and eliminate big plays through the air to improve to 2-2.
