Moberly Splits Doubleheader at Marshall

The Moberly girls and Marshall boys picked up wins Friday night. The second game of the night featured two big comebacks, with the Marshall Owls overcoming the Moberly Spartans 52-46. The Owls jumped out to a 14-7 lead midway through the first after a hot shooting start from distance. Moberly outscored Marshall 13-4 in the second frame.

Steven Findley Jr with the call on KRES and centralmoinfo.com. The Spartans held a 38-33 lead after three quarters. Marshall would then outscore Moberly 19-8 in the final quarter to takeover and seal the win. Coach Brett Boyer gave credit to the Owls.

Mason Bivins led the team with 11 points. Marshall knocked down eight triples in the contest and were carried by a 17-point night from Chase Thompson.

The Owls improve to 2-4. Moberly’s win streak ends at three games as the Spartans move to 5-3.

The Lady Spartans blew past the Lady Owls 69-19 earlier in the night. Seniors Asa Fanning and Grace Billington led the team with 24 and 20 points respectively. Moberly trailed just once in the contest after Marshall grabbed the early 2-0 advantage. Moberly closed out the quarter outscoring Marshall 17-2. Coach Tony Vestal.

The Lady Spartans improve to 7-1 and remain undefeated in conference play at 2-0. Vestal summarizes the week after playing three games in five days.

Marshall falls to 1-6. Moberly finished with the same record of 7-1 through eight games last season.
