Moberly Senior Night Split With Fulton

The Moberly High School teams split with Fulton on Senior Night. The Lady Spartans held on for a 35-33 lead, while the boys lost 73-36.

In the girls game, Moberly led 29-27 going into the fourth quarter. The Lady Spartans only scored six points in the final frame, but made it stand up with strong defense right to the end….

Brad Boyer with the call on KWIX and centralmoinfo.com. Makayla Payne not only clinched the game with the steal, but provided the winning points with a pair of free throws. Coach Tony Vestal said defense helped grind out a victory….

Vestal got 13 points from Alessia Oliver, who had to exit the game late in the fourth with a flagrant technical. The Lady Spartans improve to 11-12 overall and 4-5 in the North Central Missouri Conference. Kayanna Gaines led all scorers with 20. The Lady Hornets drop to 6-17 and 1-8 in the NCMC.

The boys game was tied at two when Fulton scored 27 points in a row. Spartans coach Cord Hagedorn explained their difficulties scoring against the Hornet zone defense….

Hagedorn’s Spartans lost for the 10th straight time. Derieus Wallace scored 11 for Moberly. Tyler Sayler led Fulton with 18. The Hornets improve to 13-10 and 5-4 in the NCMC. The Moberly teams will wrap up the regular season at Marshall on Thursday. Fulton will finish with Mexico, before the schools play in the district tournament at Mexico next week.
