Moberly Police responded to an address in the 600 block of Adams St. around 10:44 Wednesday night of a reported assault where a 40-year-old man had been stabbed. After arriving, officers found a man who had suffered a puncture wound to his abdomen. The man was taken to University Hospital in Columbia. Officers determined through investigation that the man was stabbed by a 42-year-old man who lived at the residence where police responded. The stabbing occurred when the 40-year-old man went to residence to confront the homeowner about a dispute with personal property. The confrontation took place in the yard where the man was stabbed.

The homeowner fled the scene before officers arrived, but was located around 10:15 Thursday morning at the residence. The man barricaded himself inside his home, but surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident after about 45 minutes of negotiations. During an interview, the homeowner confirmed a confrontation took place on his property and that the 40-year-old man attempted to physically attack him and that the homeowner used a knife to defend himself. The homeowner has since been released pending further investigation. The man who was stabbed has been reported in stable condition.
